With the start of the ride post poned until about 5:45
for the usual
slackers to arrive from all reaches of the metro area the Minnesota
Critical Mass left Loring Park with about 60 people. It is my belief
that the faux rain scared away the others that usually would partake
in the ride.
Through downtown on Nicollet Mall to 8th St. On towards the metrodome
to pay a visit to the Central Division leading Minnesota Twins and all
of their lovely fans that were coming out to the indoor ballpark that
was so badly needed in the early 1980s but is now 'out of date' in
2003. We rode through the plaza that is directly in front and got lots
of yells from the crowd and the ozzy look-a-like band that was on the
stage that stated 'alright for the bike gang!'
From the metrodome to the Stone Arch bridge. Wooohooo. Then past St.
Anthony and Main towards Central Avenue. We are going northeast! On to
the bar and church capital of Minneapolis. On to GRUMPYS! Over two big
cement hills that transverse railroad tracks and railroad tracks. We
finally made it to the 'other side.' In my two years of CM's this was
my first time that I had ever ridden to Northeast. Perhaps this is why
we got a little lost after we past the fabled 2nd Precint and got the
attention of Officer Friendly. A left on 22nd was declared off of
Central. The coppers were still after us. Then we made various turns
on streets that I had never been on before. These streets were nice
and quiet just the place for a little masacre from the coppers. So we
left this neighborhood and got on Broadway heading West. Oh wait. As
we turned the coppers made their move. Pulling one of our own over.
But, this time we were prepared all 60 of us walked back to the
coppers and they didn't want to deal with us so they let our brethren
go. Bladow!
Back into downtown. Losing riders at this point we had riden for a
little over an hour some continued to Uptown where the rumors of a
party were mumbled earlier. It was a nice cap on a decent ride.
Northeast whoops I mean Nordeast was conquered for a short time and
the 2nd precint got some action. Not the most exciting ride but rain
drops will square almost anyone from joining us. But just remember
what Tom Waites has to say about that "A little rain never hurt no
one."
