RR: March 2002 #1

contribute to report >

With the start time held to about 5:30 we had 50+ riders to start out with. I would have counted but 13.2 seconds into the ride 6 MPD cars pinched the ride on Groveland at 15th (1/2 block into the ride) and demanded over a loud speaker that we ride single file immediately. Then they started pushing riders off their bikes asking them if they had bike licences. Then a huge flat bed truck showed up at Loring Park and it followed a few police cars around looking for bikers. Most folks were verbally charged with an offense such as "you were riding on the sidewalk", then they would grab the bike and toss it on the flatbed truck. Welcome to 1984 enjoy the ride!

MPD's idea of NO FORCE

Register your Bike. .. OR NOT!
City Council Rep Dan Niziolek will propose repealing the city's mandatory bike-license provision. In the meantime, if you are considering registering your bike, here is some more info on registration.
