RR: February 2002 #1 contribute to report > With the start time held to about 5:30 we had 18 riders to start out with. The agreed upon path was Nicollet heading south towards Franklin were we would take a left towards Lyndale then west towards Hennipen and go back towards Loring Park. (Think Reverse of those rides in the Summer when the Boys in Blue tried to stop the party.) There was also a consensus on the idea of riding in one lane at a nice pace where we can be seen and stay WARM. The ride itself was as fun as always with my personal opinion being one of the best I have been on. We got lots of horn honks in support and even picked up 2 or 3 bikers on the way to uptown that joined us! Right away in the begining of the ride we had some fireworks as a car went into the opposing lane of traffic to pass us on the right as we were TAKING A LEFT HAND TURN FROM THAT LANE. That car had to stop its progress when it almost got itself into a head on collision. Nicollet Ave was nice and peaceful as was the wonderful hill on Franklin that ends at Lyndale. Franklin was fun with the excitement being caused by the Webmaster himself politickin' with another bike rider on the opposite corner giving them some stickers. He then went about three blocks in the opposite lanes of traffic showing the cars the versatility of the bike. As we approached Lake St. our second run in with a Coffin-On-Wheels was a car from Missouri that took a Right Hand turn from the left lane in front of us. So if anyone sees Missouri 22-6IT93 make sure you say Hi! Lake St. was a type of revenge as we didnt get stopped at the site of infamous games of Tag with the officers of the 'law.' Past the Lagoon Theatre and the Mickey Dees on the left we got to Hennipen and proceeded down towards Loring Park. This was fun as we took over the whole street around 28th towards Franklin. Cars in the opposite direction gave us honks of encouragement and cars behind us swore into there cell phones. The exciting part for me was when a Chevy Blazer passed us in the oncoming traffic lane and then we caught up to HIM (White Shirt and Tie on Cell Phone) and we boxed him in. He somehow managed to escape and proceeded to pass us on the left and cut the Masser next to me. I then biked as fast as I could and deposited a piece of DNA on his back windshield. By this time near the Bascillica we lost about 3 riders.
We continued down Hennipen past Block E(They better Have Bike Racks There
if They are using our money.) and went down 6st towards 2ave to connect
with Washington to finish the ride around the 7corners area. Along the
way the public transit users outside of the Wells Fargo Tower gave us
some waves (10 to be exact). Then in one last glorious manevuer (sp?)
we did something that I havent seen before; We went into a gas station
filled with cars sucking up our Natural Resources and held them hostage
as we circled around them! I for one hope this becomes a tradition at
MCM. 2-22-2 was a great biking day. Some Highlights
