Wonderful ride this month! Starting from Loring Park, the mass proceeded to wind around towards Downtown Minneapolis and eventually onto Hennipen Avenue. It was a sight for sore eyes - hundreds of massers, celebration in the air, yelping and howling mixed with laughter at the sight. Huge Pirate Flags waving in the wind two blocks ahead - nothing but bikes between! From Hennipen we took a right onto Washington. One of the corkers was my friend Arwen. For the first time ever, the mass was so big I didn't see everyone I knew at the start - it was impossible to do so, I was running into friends all along the mass from start to finish. It is oh so very pleasant to greet another while riding... Washington to Cedar @ Seven Corners provided the first of many hold ups for the Mass - fifty or more bikes held high, chanting one less car one less car... ahh I have reached heaven, but no, there is more... The mass heads over towards Dinkytown. Here we have a few directional issues. Seems we started down a street that only takes one to the highway (expressway) I94... oops! Three hundred massers pull a tight U-Turn and scouts are sent to the front of the mass to better direct and deploy this massive set of wheels. Back towards Downtown with a long detour to Uptown. Another hold up at Lake and Hennipen. Back up Hennipen to Franklin and then over to the Seward Cafe for the end of the mass. Anyone have my We Are Traffic video? Fun time! Let's do it again next month. It's going to take us getting back to direct organizing this month because the cops didn't crack heads and the press won't cover us merely because we want to create a better world.
