Wonderful ride this month!
45 or so riders. Much improved
from last month's mini-mass ride of 6. I would have been lucky No. 7,
but I had a flat and didn't make it down to Loring until 5:45 p.m. BUMMER!
So, the massers were inquired
upon to select a route between Downtown and Uptown. Uptown won due to
a couple folks wanting to head closer to home or work.
We took off from Loring Park and headed down Hennipen/Lyndale in front
of the Walker Art Institute. Pretty much took over the road from the get-go.
Took Hennipen and took a left on Franklin over to Lyndale and which point
we took a right. Had a little fun at Lake and Lyndale with a holdup session
with 3/4 of the riders participating. The remainder headed west on Lake
with the holdup folks in close pursuit so as to keep the mass together.
The vast majority of massers this month just wanted to ride together.
Nothing wrong with this. I'd like to see us be a bit more actively activist-ish.
We could be flyering cars, drivers, pedestrians and bikers. A flyer for
each type. Encouraging drivers to bike, pointing out biking benefits to
peds, and imploring bikers to join us. But what is our point nowadays?
Why are we riding together? If it's just to ride, it's just to ride and
that's fine. I think we could work on educating people. I think the website
could be a resource for people, but I'm looking for help in defining what
it should/could be. Help!
